Athlete's heart describes changes in the heart’s size and thickness of heart muscle resulting from intense athletic training. The changes allow the heart to supply needed oxygen and blood to the body during exercise.
An athlete may have chest pain because of the slightly larger size of the heart. The increased thickness of the heart’s muscle also may cause concern. But athlete’s heart isn’t a heart condition that requires medical attention. With testing specialists can rule out that the heart’s size is caused by heart disease or other heart problems.
