Pericardial cysts are benign, or noncancerous, tumors in the heart. They are not common, have few symptoms and typically are diagnosed by chance.
Symptoms
Symptoms associated with pericardial cysts include:
- Chest pain
- Shortness of breath
- Difficulty swallowing
In rare cases, pericardial cysts can become infected or cause pneumothorax or atrial fibrillation.
